This task has been extremely challenging as before the course I hadn’t a clue on how to use Photoshop and now I feel that I have come to grips with the basics of how to edit things on my own accord. My Photoshop skills have improved immensely even though there is much yet to be learnt. I found the layers very confusing and lost parts of my work many times and cutting out images proved to be slightly challenging. I have improved on my photography skills as well, seeing as before I couldn’t focus images correctly and now I feel quite confident taking a range of different shots. I feel as if I had more experience and more time I could have produced a better magazine.
My final magazine and contents changed a lot from my flat plan because i now realise that sometimes when you thing of an idea on paper the execution of it may not be as easy or simple as it seemed, and that sometimes your mind changes according to accessibility of objects or time restraints. My flat plan was an image of a female sixth former in the foreground with blurred background scenery, this then changed to an image of a male sixth former holding a camera in his face in the foreground with blurred outdoor scenery in the background. I tried hard to make the flat plan idea work but I found it hard to take a good shot that I was happy to use.
There were a lot of restrictions and restraints I faced whilst trying to capture my images such as
· Time- this limited me because the people that i used as my models had other lessons to go to.
· Lighting- some days the lighting was good because of the sunshine whereas some days the lighting was more dull
· Photoshop- some of the ideas I thought of weren’t possible to be carried out.
Overall i feel as if this prelim task has helped me to gain an understanding of my ability and where i stand in terms of using the software and programs that i hadn’t previously used. I was pleased with the outcome of my work to some extent however i feel as if i could have done a lot better if i had some more time.
Above is a copy of my final magazine cover. This what my contents page looked like.
